Frequently Asked Questions
Getting started
What is the best donor engagement software for nonprofits?
It depends on what you need it to do. Ovrture builds a personalized website for every major donor, from the report that honors one gift to the proposal that asks for the next, drawn from the records your CRM already holds. It is built for the top of the pyramid: leadership annual giving, major gifts and principal gifts, at a scale any team can carry. More than 65 education, healthcare, cultural and other nonprofit organizations run on it, and clients rate it 4.9 of 5 on Capterra.
How much does major donor engagement software cost?
Ovrture is priced as a one-time onboarding fee, then an annual license. Four things set the license: the term (one, three or five years), the number of internal users, the number of reports you send in a year, and the brands you run under it. Cultivation sites are unlimited, and so are training and support. Send two numbers, internal users and reports a year, from the Pricing page and the price comes back by email. Nobody calls unless you ask.
Who uses donor engagement platforms like Ovrture?
Donor relations, stewardship and advancement teams in education, healthcare, cultural and other nonprofit organizations. The person who runs it day to day is usually a director or associate director in donor relations or stewardship; gift officers use what comes back. Auburn University and Boston University are among the more than 65 organizations that run on it.
How is Ovrture different from our current CRM system?
It is not a CRM and does not replace one. Your CRM stays the system of record for constituent data and gift processing. Ovrture reads the records and fund data it already holds, builds the website each donor receives, and sends back what that donor read: the pages they opened, how long they stayed, when they came back. Connections to Blackbaud CRM, Raiser's Edge NXT and Salesforce are live, and an open API covers other systems.
How do I evaluate if Ovrture is right for our organization?
Start with the three questions buyers ask first, each answered on its own page: does it work with our CRM (Integrations), can our team pull this off (The first 90 days), and what does it cost (Pricing). Then book a 30-minute demo. Come with whatever you are trying to solve and we start there, with examples from your sector. We can also put you in touch with organizations like yours that already use it.
What's the typical timeline from evaluation to launch?
Evaluation is on your calendar: demos for your stakeholders, your security review (most of what it asks for is already published in the Trust Center), and contracting. Once the contract is signed, the build is twelve weeks to a live system. We build for about eight of them; the rest are yours, for reviews, approvals and one questionnaire about your data.
Comparisons
Why choose Ovrture instead of building donor engagement tools in-house?
Because the parts that take the longest to build are already built and already audited. A SOC 2 Type 2 attestation examined over a full year, TX-RAMP Level 2 certification, live connections to Blackbaud CRM, Raiser's Edge NXT and Salesforce, a review-and-approval workflow, and a print-ready export for the donor who wants paper. The system is live in twelve weeks, the license covers unlimited training and support, and the hosting, security and upkeep are ours. What you keep is the judgment: what to say to which donor.
How is Ovrture different from the Mythos Platform?
We do not evaluate other vendors' products, so ask Mythos what theirs does. Ours does this: it connects the report that stewards one gift to the proposal that asks for the next, in one website for one donor, built from your CRM records, with the donor's reading returned to the record. It is live in twelve weeks, the connections to Blackbaud CRM and Salesforce are live today, and the attestation your security office asks for first is a SOC 2 Type 2 with no exceptions noted. Our published comparison is in Resources, under "What Sets Ovrture Apart?"
How does Ovrture work with Blackbaud differently than using Blackbaud's built-in reporting?
Blackbaud CRM is your system of record; Ovrture is what the donor sees. The connection brings constituent and fund data into Ovrture, Ovrture builds each donor's website and report from it, and the engagement on that website goes back to the record. Raiser's Edge NXT has its own live connection, and BrightVine DataLink is an additional path to Blackbaud CRM for institutions that work with BrightVine. Ovrture is listed in the Blackbaud Marketplace.
How is Ovrture different from EverTrue or other donor intelligence platforms?
Prospect-intelligence tools help you decide whom to engage and when. Ovrture is what happens after that decision: the personalized website that carries the proposal to that prospect, the report that follows the gift, and the record of what they read. Some institutions run both kinds of tool, with Ovrture's engagement data returning to the same CRM record the intelligence tool reads from. We do not review other vendors' products, so for what EverTrue does, ask EverTrue.
Features
What features should I look for in major donor engagement software?
Four things, in order. Does it start from the record you already keep, so nothing is retyped? Does it produce something a donor actually opens, a report or a proposal built for that one person? Does what the donor read come back to the record, so the gift officer walks into the next meeting knowing what mattered? And will your security office clear it: a SOC 2 Type 2, HECVAT, an accessibility report, and a plain statement of where any AI runs. Ovrture is built on those four, and each has its own page here.
How do donors interact with Ovrture's personalized content?
Each donor gets a private website of their own, reached from a link your team sends from your own email tool, and it works on any device. On it they find their fund, its figures from your finance office, and the words and photographs of the people their gift reached. Where your team has placed an interactive content panel, they can answer a question right there, and the answer returns to their record along with what they read.
How does Ovrture collect impact stories?
Through surveys. Your team sends one survey from your own email tool to the people a gift reached: students, patients, faculty, researchers. Their words and photographs come back tied to the donor's fund, ready to place in that donor's report after your team reviews and approves them. It replaces the part of stewardship that used to be done by chasing people for quotes.
Can Ovrture help us scale our donor communications?
Yes. That is the point of it. Your team writes the report or the proposal once, in your institution's approved design, and the platform carries it to every donor you choose, each one built from that donor's own record. Correct one number and every report that carries it follows. More than 175,000 donor websites are live on the platform today, run by teams of two and teams of two hundred.
How does segmentation support the donor cycle in fundraising?
Segmentation decides who gets what. In Ovrture, the segment comes from your CRM: the fund a donor holds, their giving history, the unit that stewards them. What the platform adds is what happens after the send: which pages each donor opened, how long they stayed, whether they came back, and any question they answered. That returns to the record, so the next segment can be drawn from what donors did, not only from what you knew about them before.
How does donor engagement software reduce advancement team workload?
By taking the production work off your people and leaving them the judgment. The data comes from your CRM, so nothing is retyped. The stories come back from one survey, tied to the fund. The report is built once in your design and repeated for every donor. Nothing goes out without approval, and the officer who owns the donor is the last read. Ovrture's own analysis puts the cost of a digital report at 43.8% less than print, and a proposal at 67% less; the method behind both figures is published on the ROI Data page.
How does fundraising technology enhance the donor experience?
A printed report leaves your office and goes quiet. A website built for one donor can carry the people their gift reached in their own words and pictures, the fund's figures as of this year, and a place for the donor to answer back. It is there when the donor wants it, on whatever device they have, and it can be corrected after it is sent. The donor who wants paper can still have it: the platform produces a print-ready export of the same report.
Implementation
How long does donor software implementation take?
Twelve weeks from contract to a live system, in five stages: kickoff (one week), design (three), build (two), validation and launch (one), and first content (one). That is about eight weeks of our building; the rest is time on your calendar for reviews, approvals and one questionnaire about your data. Your team's part is about one working week in total, spread across the twelve, most of it one coordinator's.
What training and support does Ovrture provide?
Unlimited, and it never runs out. Training during onboarding and after, for anyone who joins your team at any time, with a weekly account-manager meeting that continues after launch for as long as you want it. A question in year three is answered the same way as one in week three. None of it is metered, and there is no separate line for it on the invoice.
Can we customize templates for our brand and messaging?
Yes. Your identity is built into the donor website and the report during onboarding, in your colors, type and marks. After that, the panels your institution approved stay locked, and what your team edits is a labeled field: no code, no designer. Schools, hospitals and affiliated units can each publish under their own mark, and central advancement still sees across all of it.
Organizational fit
What size organization is Ovrture designed for?
A single donor relations officer and a university with a dozen schools run the same platform, with the same capabilities. What changes is the license, which is sized to your users, your reports a year and your brands, and adjusts as the program grows. Ovrture has one current client with hundreds of users and several with two. What it is not built for is an institution that sends a handful of reports a year and wants software to do it.
How do advancement teams typically use Ovrture alongside their existing CRM?
The CRM keeps the record. Ovrture reads it, builds each donor's website from it, and writes back what the donor read. Communications builds the content, stewardship runs the workflow, the data team owns the connection, and the gift officer who owns the donor is the last read before anything goes out. Everyone works from the same picture of what the donor saw, in the system they already use.
What happens to our data if we decide to discontinue Ovrture?
It is yours, and it was the whole time. Every record, file, photograph and word you put into the system stays your property; the agreement says so twice, once for your data and once for your donors' personal data. You can download all of it whenever you like, for as long as the license runs. The designs, the content and the donor websites built for your institution belong to you; the platform they run on belongs to Ovrture. Your CRM was never displaced, so your system of record is exactly where it was.
Security
Is Ovrture secure for sensitive donor data?
Yes, and you do not have to take our word for it. An independent firm examined the platform's controls over a full year, December 4, 2024 to December 4, 2025, tested sixty of them and noted no exceptions: that is the SOC 2 Type 2 your security office asks for first. Ovrture also holds TX-RAMP Level 2 certification, has completed the HECVAT, and publishes its policies, subprocessors and control results in a Trust Center anyone can open. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and a third-party firm tests the platform continuously rather than once a year.
How does Ovrture integrate with CRM systems?
Four connections are live: Blackbaud CRM, Raiser's Edge NXT, Salesforce (through the AppExchange), and BrightVine DataLink as an additional path to Blackbaud CRM. Six objects come in: records, funds, fund data, fund performance, fund impact and fund donors. Four go back: engagement, sessions, reports and sites, and the records and fund data themselves. For any other system there is an open API, REST over JSON, with public documentation, and a structured file your team uploads works with no connection at all. Gift figures arrive at the fund level; there is no gift-transaction or payment object of any kind.
What technical requirements does Ovrture have?
Almost none on your side. The platform runs in the browser on any device; there is nothing to install and no server to maintain. Your IT team does six things at launch: sets the web address, allows our email domain, creates an admin alias, provides a certificate and a DNS record, and turns on single sign-on if you use it. A few hours, across one to two weeks. Hosting, security and upkeep are ours.
ROI
What ROI can I expect from donor engagement software?
Two figures, with the method published. A digital stewardship report costs 43.8% less than a printed one, all-in, across a run of a thousand: $79.56 against $141.52. A cultivation proposal through the platform costs 67% less than the print process it replaces. Both come from Ovrture's own ROI analyses, which model aggregated patterns across clients rather than one institution's books; the ROI Data page shows every assumption and every correction. What no analysis can promise is the gift. What clients report is on Results, in their words.
How does Ovrture improve donor engagement compared to traditional methods?
You find out what happened. A printed report leaves the building and nothing comes back. A donor's website tells you which pages they opened, how long they stayed and when they returned, and that goes to their record, so the officer walks into the next conversation knowing what the donor cared about. Clients describe the difference on the Results page; the one that comes up most often is timing an ask to a report the donor has just read.
Can you share specific client success stories?
Yes. The Results page carries two cases and 27 client statements, attributed by name and institution where the client has agreed to it, from Rice, Peddie, Miami, Virginia Law, CommonSpirit Health and others. In a demo we can put you in touch with an organization in your sector that runs the platform today.
How do you prevent major donor attrition through engagement analytics?
By noticing early. When a donor who used to read every page opens the report and leaves in a minute, or stops opening it at all, that shows up in their record, and the officer can pick up the phone while it is still a conversation rather than a lapse. The platform does not decide what the signal means; your officer does. It makes sure the officer sees it.
Sectors
How does Ovrture work for higher education institutions?
A university is many institutions under one name, and the platform is built for that. Each school, college or affiliated foundation publishes under its own mark, to its own donors, with its own people, and central advancement sees across all of it. The endowment report a dean's donor receives and the campaign proposal a gift officer carries into a meeting are both built from the same record in the same CRM. Rice, Virginia, Auburn and Boston University are among the universities that run on it.
What makes Ovrture effective for healthcare fundraising?
Healthcare philanthropy stewards grateful patients and families, and the report they receive can carry the words of the caregivers and researchers their gift supported, tied to the fund they gave to. A health system's service lines each publish under their own mark under one license. On security, the attestations your compliance office asks for are in place: a SOC 2 Type 2 examined over a full year, and a published policy for every control. Boston Children's, Seattle Children's, MD Anderson and CommonSpirit Health Philanthropy are among the systems that run on it.
How do cultural institutions benefit from Ovrture?
A museum, an orchestra or a historic site stewards patrons whose gifts fund exhibitions, seasons and acquisitions, and its reports live or die on the pictures. A donor's website can carry the exhibition their gift opened, in images and in the curator's words, with the fund's figures beside it, and the proposal for the next season built the same way. Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, the Juilliard School, the Alzheimer's Association and Breakthrough T1D are among the change and culture organizations that run on it.
Advanced features
What unique analytics capabilities does Ovrture provide?
For each donor: the pages they opened, where they stayed, how long, and when they came back, kept as a record of each visit and a snapshot of what they were shown on the date they were shown it. For your program: the same engagement across every donor and every year, readable and exportable. All of it returns to the donor record in your CRM, so the people who already work there see it without opening another system.
How do Ovrture's interactive content panels work?
An interactive content panel is a panel in a donor's website or report that asks the donor something and takes their answer there, where they are already reading. The answer returns to the donor's record with the rest of their engagement, so nobody transcribes it. It turns a report the donor receives into one they can reply to.
How are surveys different from interactive content panels?
They point in opposite directions. A survey goes outward, to the people a gift reached, and brings back their words and photographs for the donor's report. An interactive content panel points at the donor, inside their own website, and brings back what the donor thinks. Together they close the loop: the people the gift helped speak to the donor, the donor speaks back, and both land in the record.
AI assistant
How does the AI Content Assistant protect our donor data?
By staying inside a boundary your security office has already approved. The platform's AI runs on Amazon Bedrock, inside Ovrture's own AWS account, in the region your data already sits in. The content it works with stays in that account. AWS states that data sent to Bedrock is not shared with model providers, is not used to improve the base models, and is encrypted in transit and at rest. Nothing of yours trains anything. The full statement is in the Artificial Intelligence section of the Security page.
Can the AI maintain our organization's writing style and voice?
It works inside your templates and the panels your institution approved, so the frame is always yours. It drafts and proofreads; your team edits, decides and sends, and nothing goes out without the approval the workflow already requires. The judgment stays with the person who knows the donor.
What types of content can the AI assistant help create?
Today, drafts and edits of the content your team already writes in the platform: report copy, proposal copy, the stories that come back from a survey. What is coming is co-creation: a first draft for each donor, built from what your record already holds and the stories your people have already gathered, for your team to edit and send. That is on the roadmap, and the Home page says so in the future tense on purpose.
Stewardship practice
What is a stewardship report?
It is how an institution tells a donor what their gift did. Usually once a year, it reports the fund's figures, names the people the gift reached, and says thank you in a way that shows the money was used as promised. For most of its history it was a printed document, the same for everyone above a giving level. On Ovrture it is a website built for one donor, from that donor's record, with the report they were shown kept on the date they were shown it.
Why are stewardship reports important?
Because the best prospect for the next gift is the donor who has already given, and the report is where they decide whether giving was worth it. A donor who understands what their gift did is the donor who renews, and who says yes to the proposal that follows. A donor who hears nothing, or hears the same thing everyone else heard, drifts. The report is the one communication a major donor is certain to judge you by.
What should be included in a stewardship report?
The donor's fund and its figures, from your finance office, as of this year. The people the gift reached, in their own words and pictures. What the gift made possible that would not have happened otherwise. A thank-you from someone the donor knows. And, if you can, a way for the donor to answer back. Everything else is decoration.
How to write a stewardship report effectively?
Write it for one person. Open with their gift and their fund by name. Let the people the gift reached do most of the talking. Show the numbers plainly, without spin. Close with what comes next and a real thank-you. Then find out what they read, and let that shape the next one. On Ovrture the data and the stories are already in place when you sit down, so the writing is the only part left.
How to increase donor engagement effectively?
Stop sending the same thing to everyone. A major donor knows a form letter when they see one, and knows a report built for them when they see that. Give each donor their own website, with their fund, their people and a way to reply, and then read what they did with it. The donors who open, stay and come back are telling you where the next conversation should start. Ovrture exists to make that possible for every major donor, at a cost per report 43.8% below print.
How to engage donors in a meaningful way?
Tell them the truth about what their gift did, in the voices of the people it reached, and then listen. Meaning comes from specifics: this fellowship, this student, this year. A website built for one donor can hold those specifics in a way a mailing cannot, and it can ask the donor a question and carry the answer back to the officer who knows them. That is the difference between a report and a relationship.
